The Wyvern-class explorer sliced through the thick and dusty atmosphere of Skarr with ease. Though the brownish dust and smog completely covered the bridge's view windows, Sean followed the course charted on the map faithfully, gaining a new respect for it. After a good amount of time, they finally broke through the dusty cloud cover and a burst of light filled the bridge. It was Skarr.
The world was huge, but filled with so many things that just seemed wrong. Buildings constructed by a modern civilization so long ago now cling on to whats left of themselves as they tilt and sink into what seems like a dusty and crater-filled desert. Huge fissures in the earth seem to stretch on for miles with houses, buildings, and vehicles tipping over into the great maw, just one good gust of wind away from falling into the abyss.
As Sean continued on his course, it seemed to take him over an entire downed city, which seemed to be completely devoid of life. It was just so quiet on the ground. Was everyone dead? What could have happened to this place, which looked as if it were once an amazing site to see. What upset Sean the most is that he would love to know what this place must have looked like back when it was in its prime.
As the ship reached what looked like the remains of a suburb, Sean's heart sank just a bit. It seemed the ground and dirt swallowed up most of the houses. All the others were either completely unrecognizable, or slipping away into a crater. He saw movement, but it was just the side of a house collapsing into the abysmal crater that was now its backyard.
The spacecraft zoomed overhead with great speed, leaving behind the ruined civilization and heading off into the wastelands. ~Man...~ It really disturbed him to see a world in such ruin. ~There's no telling how many other places might look like this... and how many more will in the future...~ There was a heavy feeling in his stomach, but he had to fight it back. He was a soldier, after all, and his mission was to prevent things like this from ever happening to anyone.
The map pinged with a bright ring around the landing zone charted down. Sean looked forward and could indeed make out what seemed like little thrown together huts, like a little village or town. He hoped that these places weren't as devoid of life as the city he'd already passed over. If these Mechanoids were ever here, was Sean too late? Was this trip just a waste of time? Another blow to his confidence? Another loss in the battle against impending doom... He sure hoped not...
Finding a good place to land, right in the center of the makeshift village, Sean gently lowered the explorer onto the ground. The landing gears grudgingly extended out from the bottom of the ship, possibly being slowed down by all of the dust and asteroid debris that had built up within them, but they still fully extended, and the ship landed. "We're here..." The young captain said solemnly as he rose from the captain's chair and turned towards the door leading to the Common Area. "Let's just hope somebody else is as well..."
