The ship silently orbited over the planet like a streamline satellite. They'd arrived at Sei's planet a while ago and have been orbiting for some time now, but they weren't exactly where they needed to be in order to land, so the ship gently coated in free-fall around the world while they waited.
Krad spent most of the travel time with Meiling, going over more of her lessons in Common. He'd finally found something fun to do with a girl that didn't involve Super-Happy-Funtime. He enjoyed teaching Meiling a new language. It was hilarious when she would make little mistakes. The faces that she made were priceless.
She finally got the hang of how to pronounce the letters of the alphabet and she could even count to a hundred now. Even though she made a lot of mistakes, she was a pretty quick learner when she would stop beating herself up about small mispronunciations. “Common isn’t the easiest language to learn; especially for Myrthra. You’ve gotta learn completely new sounds and ways to manipulate your mouth, but you’re doing really well, Meiling. You’ll be an expert in no time.” He meant what he said. Being cared for by Myrthra, he could compare the ease of learning their language to learning Common. It seemed they struggled much with learning his language.
Myrthra was a far more simplistic language than Common. It had easier rules to comprehend and was straight-forward. The only thing that made it difficult for some would be learning the animalistic growls and inflections on certain phrases and statements, but once you learn those, the language was easy to comprehend.
“Let’ try introductions again.” He suggested before switching back to Common and starting the practice. ”Good afternoon. My name is Krad.” One of the most awkward parts of teaching her Common was that he actually had to speak it properly, which sounded very funny coming from someone whose first language was Slang. ”It’s nice to meet you. Where are you from? How old are you? What is your favorite color?”
He wanted her to get the hang of simple question and answer sentences. He expected her to make tiny mistakes in pronunciation, but for the most part, he was confident that she could answer his question coherently. She seemed generally interested in learning Common, and it showed during their lessons.
