“…Hell-low.”
When Meiling spoke, the boy's intrigue in her grew. She absolutely butchered the word Hello, but he could not help but find a child-like humor in this. He went to speak, but noticed a slight nervous twitch to the side of her mouth; the same twitch he recognized whenever he struggled with a word he was unsure of how to pronounce.
“Meiling How you?”
He smiled now. In the presence of Krad he was nervous, unsure, uneasy, and terrified that if he made a mistake his entire village might be at risk. But for some reason, this Myrthra girl seemed his polar opposite. She seemed almost as timid as himself. As unsure as he was right now. He found comfort in this, and was hoping he would be allowed to speak with her. Though he found his mouth moving before he asked the blue-haired human for permission.
"My name is Sei." Though it did not possess the authentic animalistic sounds and body language, he spoke to her in the Myrthra language to the best of his ability.
Krad raised an interested eyebrow as he looked towards the boy who spoke her language. He could see him relax as he spoke to her. It made Krad relax as well. He was slowly beginning to realize that he didn't need to be so threatening anymore. Like Meiling said before, he is just a child. This was Krad's only shot to help Meiling discover more about herself. He sighed out more tension though his nose and, even though his arms were folded across his chest, he allowed himself to relax bit by bit.
Sei, the young Elusyian Keeper of the Great Index, looked up to Krad through the cover of his rounded sunglasses, and with the straightforwardness of a child, he spoke in the Myrthra language. "Is she your slave?"
Krad's face completely dropped. He had no idea how to answer that. Of course she wasn't, but what in the world would make him ask such a question? "N-no...!" It had been a very long time since anything's caught the blue-haired knight off guard in such a way. He even found himself tripping over his own words. "She's not my slave!"
"Oh..." The young boy paused quietly as he considered the other possible reasons why a human would befriend anyone outside of his own race. "Is she your mate then?"
Again, Krad found himself at a loss for words. He didn't know what to say, or what language to say it in. His face even brightened a bit, though not out of embarrassment. How in the world was this conversation making Meiling feel? All this time they've been constantly on the move, Krad never stopped to appreciate the fact that she was a woman. Of course, Krad was a very suave individual, and when it came to women, he always knew what to say, but for some reason, when he thought about Meiling, everything went blank.
"She's..." What was she to him? He had to think fast. Every second mattered. Wait too long and she might feel as though he didn't care about her. Speak too soon and he might say the wrong thing. Normally, if he was pursuing her physically, he wouldn't hesitate to say yes, she was his girlfriend, but he never thought about her like that. If he said no, she was a friend, he could possibly friend zone himself and then he'd be screwed over forever.
"She's..." Then it hit him, and he finally found a way to calm himself down. His voice was smooth, his eyes fell on Meiling, and he said with his trademark smirk. "She's my partner."
It was perfect!
It was so vague it could be taken many different ways. Being partners was not as defining as being significant others, but at the same time, much more intimate than just friends. What was even better, was that it was so nicely wedged in the middle, their relationship could go either way were the opportunity ever to present itself. He was completely relaxed now. He even had a little smile on his face now. He knew that now he definitely had to think more deeply about his actual relationship with her, but for now, he was just glad he dodged that bullet.
"Hmm... I see..." The young Sei seemed satisfied with this answer, and then he went back to looking at Meiling. "I am glad to met you. Feel free to... have the things you look." He struggled a bit with his last sentence, but he figured he made himself as clear as possible. He was actually quite interested in Meiling and wanted to watch her even more.
"How do you know Hirokan anyway?" Krad asked with a more casual air about him now. He was generally curious now.
"I know all languages." The young Sei replied with a bit of pride to him now. He turned to face Krad and had a smile on his face. He would struggle with too many words if he attempted to speak in Hirokan, which is why he switched back to Common. "My father told me the first part of being a Keeper is learning all languages. That way I will be able to understand them when I read." His smile possessed both pride and happiness within it as he thought of the days of his early apprenticeship. He did many things with his father, the Keeper before him, and learned so much. Even without his father around now, he had learned so much during their time together, he felt confident in his abilities to pick up where they left off and continue to teach himself. "I have many books and dictionaries of all languages..." Then, his face flashed with a sudden realization and he bounced a bit in excitement before switching back to Hirokan.
"I could give you some books to help you learn Galactic Common, Meiling." It was true that he had the unyielding respect from all of the villagers, yes. But they saw him as more of a leader and prophet. He never had a chance to truly make friends, which is why he was so excited to be in the presence of such a kindhearted Myrthra. "I have never see a Myrthra before. I have always been... cur... curious...? about your people." He blushed a bit and rubbed the back of his head in embarrassment. He still had a lot to learn.
"What do you say, Meiling? Think we should take a couple of books back with us?" It seemed Krad was finally calm now and back to his normal self; the self Meiling was more comfortable with. It wasn't difficult teaching her the things he did, but it wouldn't hurt to have the help of a few texts as well. Krad was never really a book reader, but perhaps Meiling could make some use out of them.
